Foot Health

Foot Health comprises of cutting toenails and treating any painful places on your feet.

A lot of people forget to look after their feet, but as most of us are aware, when there is a problem with them, it can cause difficulties and discomfort.  Corns and callus, caused by continued friction on certain areas of the feet, can become painful and sore.  Corns are especially painful when direct pressure is applied.  The type of shoes that are worn can help alleviate the discomfort, but the best treatment is to have them removed by a professional.  Corn plasters are not recommended as they can damage healthy skin around the corns and cause more pain and discomfort.

Massage

Each type of massage uses different massage techniques. Effleurage is a light stroking that can be performed with the palms or the thumbs. The pressure and speed is varied depending on the muscle and the desired result. Effleurage increases blood flow to the muscle.

Petrissage is a form of two-handed kneading in which both hands pick up the muscle and compress it. This technique loosens tight bunches of muscles. Percussive strokes are blows or strikes on the muscle, often performed with the little fingers. They are used to tone the muscles.  Cupping involves percussing or striking the muscles with cupped hands. It stimulates the skin and causes muscle contractions that help tone the muscles.

There are variations on all these strokes, such as deep cross-fiber friction to separate muscle fibers and break down scar tissue, and jostling to relieve muscle tension.  The massage therapist will combine techniques to achieve the maximum desired result.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

MLD is a specialised type of gentle massage. It’s a light, rhythmic, skin-stretching manual therapy technique, specifically focused on the lymphatic system. The therapist uses very light pressure and specific slow hand movements to gently stretch the skin in directions that follow the underlying lymphatic pathways. The main goal is to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage movement of lymphatic fluid (lymph) out of swollen areas and towards functioning lymph nodes or drainage points, where it can be filtered and returned to the circulatory system. Most commonly used as a treatment for lymphedema.

Ear Wax Extraction

Aural microsuction is the preferred and most common method of treatment for ear wax removal. The therapist uses a binocular microscope to get a clear view of the ear canal and ear wax blockage. A special hand held suction device that works like a miniature vacuum cleaner applies gentle low pressure suction to draw the wax out of the ear canal. The continuous magnified view of the ear canal is a key benefit of microsuction, allowing the practitioner to see exactly what they’re doing at at all times, ensuring they are able to work with precision. It does not involve using water in the ear, therefore reducing the risk of infection.

Hot Stone Therapy

A warming and therapeutic massage using warm basalt stones which have been slowly heated in hot water to penetrate deeply into tired aching muscles.

Initially the stones are used to warm therapeutic oils on the therapists hands and transfer heat to the body. As the stones cool slightly they are glided over the skin transferring a warmth that spreads, deeply relaxing the body and mind.

Particularly beneficial to stubborn muscle aches and knots and helpful to stiff aching joints such as hands, neck, shoulders feet and ankles.

Indian Head Massage

A wonderfully relaxing seated massage of the upper back, shoulders neck, arms scalp and face.

Concentrating on acupressure points on the scalp, this massage is hypnotic and deeply meditative and particularly helpful to symptoms of headaches, stress, anxiety and insomnia.

This treatment can be carried out with the patient either seated or laying down if preferred

Reiki

Reiki is an ancient form of energy medicine developed and formalised in early 1920’s Japan. Reiki is also the name given to the subtle, natural healing vibration channeled through a Reiki practitioner to the client during a treatment.

This natural healing therapy promotes calm and balance by strengthening your body’s natural healing processes and releasing blockages in your energy system. Energetic blockages are formed and sustained by the barrage of energies we come into daily contact with in our environments.

There are many ailments that in fact begin as subtle energetic imbalances and Reiki aims to resolve these small imbalances before they become bigger problems.
