Chiropractic is the health profession concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system; and the effects these disorders have on the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments, including spinal adjustment and other soft-tissue manipulation (World Federation of Chiropractic 2001).
What do we treat?
Chiropractic treats a wide variety of conditions, not just the spine. There is strong research showing that, with spinal manipulation, we can successfully treat the following:
- Acute and chronic low back pain.
- Neck pain.
- Headaches / migraines.
- Shoulder pain.
- Wrist / elbow / hand pain.
- Hip pain.
- Knee / ankle / foot pain.
- Prolapsed (slipped) disc.
On your first visit you will need to complete a consent form and a medical history questionnaire, prior to your consultation; so we ask you to attend 10 minutes before your appointment time. As part of your consultation, we will undertake a through case history review; and discuss any past medical problems or accidents that may need to be taken into consideration for your proposed treatment plan. A full physical, neurological and orthopaedic examination will be performed; after which you will be presented with an explanation of your condition and how it can be treated with chiropractic (if appropriate). All this will all take around 40 minutes. Sometimes it is required to get further tests before treatment can commence.
